Andy Conlan has an English Literature Degree from Auckland University and is a graduate of their highly contested Creative Writing Program.

He is a published author and illustrator, and an award winning feature film director.
His work has been published by Vice, The New Zealand Herald, Pulp, Frankie, No., Onfilm, Pro Design, Animal's Voice, New Zealand Musician, , Play Monkey, Pilot, Hyperspace, Netguide, New Zealand Computer, The Listener, Craccum and others.
Of his debut feature film, The Last Magic Show, Filmthreat.com said "Well acted, darkly lit, and gorgeously shot, the dark undertones of this story seem to ooze off the screen", and added that the film is a reminder of "exactly why you love independent cinema".
Conlan's debut illustrated novella, The Waiting Pig, was described by The Christchurch Press's Christopher Hampton as "sharp, subversive, sensitive, dry-humoured and perceptive".
